Lotus Notes Search Requirements
Overview
Identity Finder for Windows v4.6 and later include the ability to search Lotus Notes mail files (*.nsf) including messages and attachments. Lotus Notes must be installed on the system performing the search, but the mail files can exist locally or on a Domino server. The mail files can be encrypted with a Notes ID and password or unencrypted, but in the former case, the appropriate information must be available to Identity Finder (see Requirements below).
Requirements
In order to successfully search Lotus Notes mail files (*.nsf), all of the following requirements must be met:
- Identity Finder for Windows client version 4.6 or later
- An Identity Finder license file or Activation Number that includes the Lotus Notes module
- Lotus Notes client 7 or later must be installed on the client system. If Lotus Notes was not properly installed, the search may not work and is not supported.
- If the Lotus Notes client was not installed, the folder containing the file NNOTES.DLL must be in the system path. The default location of this file is:
C:\Program Files\IBM\Lotus\Notes\
- If the Lotus Notes client was not properly installed, it may be possible to force Identity Finder to search Lotus Notes by explicitly providing the path to the notes.ini file. If the notes.ini file does not include the necessary information, the search may still fail. The following setting may be used to specify the full path to the notes.ini file:
Settings\Locations\Email\LotusNotes\ConfigurationFileLocation
- If the following error is displayed, it may be possible to search Lotus Notes by using the ConfigurationFileLocation setting described above:
- Unable to search Lotus Notes email (Lotus Notes not installed).
- If the Lotus Notes client was not installed, the folder containing the file NNOTES.DLL must be in the system path. The default location of this file is:
- If a Notes ID requires a password, one of the following scenarios is required to search the associated mail file:
- The password must be supplied via the client UI on the E-Mail settings page
- The password must be supplied via the client UI when prompted via the search
- Lotus Notes must be open and the password provided to it prior to the start of the search. Additionally, the "Don’t prompt for a password from other Notes-based programs“ checkbox within the Lotus Notes client application must be checked.
- Lotus Notes databases with an ODS version of 41 (Notes R5 database format) or later. Older databases can be upgraded by using the Compact function within the Lotus Notes client application.
