Overview
This article is for business and enterprise users of Identity Finder. For individual/home users, please refer to the article Activation steps and troubleshooting.
In order to use Identity Finder Professional Edition, Identity Finder Enterprise Client, or Identity Finder Mac Edition, it is necessary to have a valid activation number or license key file. Without a valid activation number, it is possible to launch Identity Finder Free for Windows but it is not possible to use Identity Finder Mac Edition.
For questions about a license (e.g., modules purchased, expiration, number of seats), please contact the appropriate account representative. If the appropriate account representative is not known, please contact the individual responsible for the purchase of Identity Finder software. If none of that those individuals are known, please contact our sales team.
For additional information on deploying an enterprise console, please refer to the article Getting Started with the Enterprise Suite.
This article contains the following sections:
Using an Activation Number
Identity Finder Enterprise Client and Identity Finder Professional Edition
- Install the application by launching IdentityFinderSetup.exe or a custom MSI and following all of the steps.
- Launch the application from the last screen of the installer, by clicking on the shortcut created by the installer, or by double-clicking on the application executable.
- Follow the activation wizard (view screenshots and additional details in the online user guide):
- Choose "Activate with Identity Finder activation number" and click Next.
- Enter a valid activation number in the designated field exactly as it was provided.
- Click Next.
- Optionally provide registration information and Click Next or Click Skip and then Click Finish.
- If any errors are encountered, please refer to the Troubleshooting section of this article.
- After successful activation, the application will open and provide access to all of the licensed features.
Rather than requiring users to type in their activation number in the Activation Wizard, it is possible to pre-populate the activation number field by creating an activation.txt file. Activation.txt is a plain text file that may be placed in the same folder as the Identity Finder application (IdentityFinder.exe). For example:
C:\Program Files\Identity Finder 5\activation.txt
This file will be automatically read into the application if the application is not already activated or licensed. The contents of this file consist of one valid Identity Finder activation number with no additional header or footer information. Activation.txt may be added to a custom MSI allowing users to skip step 3.2 above.
Identity Finder Mac Edition
- Launch the application installer by double-clicking on IdentityFinderMacSetup.dmg.
- Install the application by drag-copying Identity Finder Mac Edition into the Applications folder.
- Launch the application by opening the Applications folder and click on Identity Finder.
- Follow the activation wizard to completion.
- Click Next.
- Enter a valid activation number in the designated field exactly as it was provided.
- Click Next.
- Optionally provide registration information and click Finish or Click Skip and then Click OK.
- If any errors are encountered, please refer to the Troubleshooting section of this article.
- After successful activation, the application will open and provide access to all of the licensed features.
Using a License Key File

- Navigate to the folder in which the application was installed (e.g., C:\Program Files\Identity Finder 5)
- Copy a valid license file (identityfinder.lic) into the application installation folder.
